New and digital news story 12/10/13

ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 force TVCatchUp to drop their services...

The article is about how ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 won their court ruling which has therefore forced the TVCatchUp website to stop streaming more than 20 of their services. The London-based website; which uses the strapline "never miss a show again"; has been told it cannot stream the main ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 networks on its mobile TV services anymore. The European court of justice ruled that websites that retransmit live TV over the internet without permission from broadcasters are in breach of copyright.
Furthmore to this, the court has told the London-based website (TVCatchUp) that it can no longer stream 11 of the broadcasters' digital channels on its online (web-based) service.
This includes...
TVCatchup

  • ITV2
  • ITV3
  • ITV4
  • E4
  • Film4
  • More4

The service; TVCatchUp; in my opinion did make it easy for users to watch different programmes from one main provider however you are able to still access these programmes from the broadcasters catch-up services which they provide such as BBC iplayer and ITV player.
